Robert McNamara has been a teacher and performer for the last 25 years. His main instruments are the guitar, the lute, and the mandolin. He is currently a member of the music faculties of Monterey Peninsula College and Santa Catalina School in Monterey, and also tutors at the Robert Louis Stevenson Upper School in Pebble Beach. He has played numerous venues locally, including the Bay Club at the Inn at Spanish Bay, The Covey at Quail Lodge, Carmel Valley Ranch Resort, The Lodge at Pebble Beach, and many others. He is also a favorite at the La Mirada Sunday Concert Series, The Monterey Museum of Art Thursday evening series, Monterey's Christmas in the Adobes, and First Night Monterey. Robert has also written and published several books on the guitar and lute. He also participates in a “Cultural Ambassador” program with the U.S. State Dept., and has taught and performed in Jordan, Bahrain, Lebanon, Morocco, Libya, and Colombia S.A. He was the first American musician to play in Libya in over 25 years, performing on the guitar and 5–string banjo at the annual Ghadames International Folk Festival in November 2005.
