In addition to private lessons, the Monterey Peninsula Academy of Music offers Group Classes in the following areas:

There are several classes available for each topic, and each class size is limited. The sessions last 6 weeks each and are ongoing.

 

Beginning Group Guitar

Group Beginning Guitar classes will cover reading notation, tablature, chord fingering and switching, and basic fingerpicking. No previous experience is necessary. The class is intended to give you all the basics necessary to play a wide variety of songs and to get exposure to different musical styles.

Group Intermediate Guitar classes pick up where the the Beginning class left off. The only pre–requisites are the ability to read tablature and the ability to finger and switch basic chords in the first position. In this class we will go into different styles of music, such as blues, rock, jazz, and folk. We will cover the techniques of flatpicking and fingerpicking, and learn basic improvisation using scales and modes.

Garage Band

Calling all guitarists, bassists, singers, keyboardists, and drummers!For Girls and Boys, ages 9-18, with some experience on their instrument. Receive expert coaching from an experienced professional musician. Each session lasts 6 weeks, and includes two 90-minute classes weekly.Students will form a rock band (guitars, bass, drums, vocals, keyboards) and learn to play classic rock tunes in a live band situation. We will record the songs on a CD and perform them in a live gig!

Intro to Garage Band

Never played an instrument before but want to play in a band? No problem! Here is a chance to try different instruments- guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, vocals, and learn to play in a Rock Band.  No experience necessary, open to girls and boys of all ages. Each session lasts 6 weeks, and includes two 90-minute classes weekly.

Girrls Rock!

The “Garage Band” program geared specifically for girls of all ages, taught by Tammy Bartlett.

World Music Ensemble

Explore World Music!  Open to all instruments: here’s an opportunity to play a variety of musical styles with others in an informal class setting. Enjoy playing Celtic, Gypsy, Latin, American Traditional, and Jazz.

Fee:$150 for 6-week session

Adult Jam

Tired of sitting around playing by yourself? All tuned up but nowhere to go? Here is a chance to play with other adults in a relaxed and fun setting. Once a week 1 hour session for 6 weeks. 2 groups offered: Acoustic Folk/Bluegrass, and Electric Classic Rock. Kick out the Jams!!

TUITION POLICY

TUITION

Tuition payment of $116 per month for 30 min. private lessons ($170 for 45 min. and $230 for 60 min.) are due on or before the 1st lesson if the month (see PAYMENT PROCEDURE below). When 5 lessons occur in a calendar month, the tuition for that month will be pro-rated to $145. Tuition for group lessons are due on the 1st class of the session. Tuition fees subject to change.

PAYMENT PROCEDURE

Charge card (Visa, Mastercard), debit card, personal check, and cash can be accepted for payment of tuition. We also accept credit/debit card payment by phone if you cannot pay in person. All checks should be made payable to: Monterey Peninsula Academy of Music.

The company we use for credit /debit card transactions is Quickbooks. All financial data is securely encoded on their system and fully complies with all of the Federal Reserve electronic bank transfer requirements. The system is currently being used to securely process millions of transactions each year in other industries as well.

If at any time you wish to discontinue lessons, simply inform us in writing one month in advance and we will stop charges on your bank account or credit card after the 1 month notice.

ATTENDANCE

Payment of tuition reserves your instructor's time and a specific lesson time. Please avoid scheduling activities or appointments during the time that your reserved for your lesson. If you experience a continued conflict with your lesson time, contact us regarding the possibility of changing to a permanent time that is more convenient for you.

If an instructor is absent, the Academy will provide a qualified substitute instructor or the lesson will be credited or made-up.

A 24 hour notice for cancellation is required for lesson credit. However, this policy is flexible in the event of a reasonable unforseen circumstance. Please do not abuse this policy.

DISCOUNTS

We offer a 10% discount to siblings, spouses, or parents of students already enrolled.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Limited funds are available for scholarships. Please call for further information.
