Arlyn Petalver: Violin, Viola

Arlyn Petalver still remembers the excitement of hearing and seeing the violin for the first time at the age of 5, after being brought to a Monterey County Symphony performance by her mother. She started learning violin soon after and went on to play at the University of California Santa Barbara, studying with Ron Copes of the Juilliard String Quartet and Margaret Batjer of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Upon her graduation in 1999, she won the Clayton Wilson Award for making a significant musical contribution to the UCSB Music Department. She currently is a freelance musician, playing with various groups on the Monterey Peninsula. Dedicated to sharing her love of music with future generations, Arlyn is the 2nd Violin sectional coach for Youth Music Monterey and teaches with the South County Strings Program. Arlyn also plays viola and teaches not only classical music, but also folk and fiddle styles of playing. She uses a variety of methods, combining the techniques and philosophies of Shinichi Suzuki, Paul Rolland and Mimi Zweig.

Carol Frazier: Vocals, Vocal Coaching

Internationally known recording artist, and Certified Creative Coach, Carol Frazier, has joined
our faculty at Monterey Peninsula Academy of Music. Frazier has been teaching voice and vocal
performance for over 25 years to students that have gone on to become music teachers and
recording artists. Frazier has taught as a music teacher from K-6 grade in the school system,
coached vocalists for The Voice Auditions, taught music theatre for Canyon Concert Ballet, and
produced many of her students recordings from her private studio.
Frazier’s style of teaching incorporates fundamentals from her classical trained background at
Colorado State University and Colorado College. Frazier then incorporates years of training and
experience from Berklee School of Music, and contemporary master’s such as Scott Matin. This
enables Frazier to key into each students preferences and personal style to help build and
strengthen the voice to support individuality. Known as the “alternative” vocal coach, Frazier
loves teaching all ages and abilities.
The Carol Frazier Band has cumulatively toured and played with The Brubeck Brothers, Patti
Griffen, Sister Sledge, Lover Boy, John Denver, Shawn Colvin, James Taylor, Don Grusin,
Nelson Rangel, Carmen McCree, The YellowJackets and many more. Frazier has headlined at
The Chief Theatre, The Lincoln Center, The Betty Ford Center, The Union Colony Center, and
may more fine theaters across the country.
“My passion is passing on the gift of music, so that each singer can feel confident in expressing
themselves in their own unique voice.” Carol Frazier
